AlfaVision came up with the next-generation solution to enable an immersive museum experience in a heritage environment.

The new visitor center of the Ghent Altarpiece in the Ghent Saint Bavo Cathedral offers from today a museum experience that heralds a new era for the heritage experience and creates many new possibilities for the future opening up of heritage and museums.

AlfaVision came up with the next-generation solution to enable an immersive museum experience in a heritage environment.

A personal virtual digital assistant moves the visitor from chapel to chapel. In each chapel you see a scene through AR glasses or AR tablet. AR (or Augmented Reality) is the technology with which you create a virtual, 3D holographic experience layer on top of the existing environment.

This impressive experience is linked to lively storytelling. You are flashed back to the time when the Ghent Altarpiece was painted and you are a witness to everything that this masterpiece has experienced throughout history.

And yet no external hardware is needed, except for the comfortable Augmented Reality glasses that the visitor puts on.

In this way, the religious and heritage function of St. Bavo's Cathedral is not disturbed by multimedia or disruptive projection setups.
